About us
Daws Hill Projects’ vision is to support people in living fulfilling lives, even in the face of mental and/or physical health difficulties.
Our Mission
We aim to:
- Reduce stigma and discrimination surrounding physical and mental health matters
- Promote education, awareness and engagement with the community of those matters
- Provide support and services to those in need regardless of age, colour, gender, ethnic, religious or sexual orientation or ability to pay
Why Daws Hill Projects?
Because it takes courage to ask for help.
Especially help with our mental health.
It’s not visible, like a cut, where you can ask for a plaster.
It’s mostly invisible.
But not invisible like a headache, where you can ask for Aspirin.
It’s often invisible in an indescribable way, and even with medication the relief isn’t as quick as a painkiller. And aside from that, it still carries societal stigma.
So imagine when a person plucks up the courage to do so, and they discover that the support just isn’t there.
This is the reality of those struggling with their mental health.
Long waiting lists for government and charity-run services, sessions that are time and quantity limited (often to just six 30 minute sessions!) leave many struggling to cope and hitting crisis point.
At DHP we’re doing things differently, and this is because our Founder Kirti Soni, a pucca humanitarian, has walked the walk, at several stages of her life, and sought help, and found it woefully missing.
Our Services
We will:
- Provide people with the mental health support they need
- Equip them with the tools they need to continue looking after their mental health
- Advocate for them wherever and whenever required, including attending appeals and tribunals
- Empower them to raise awareness in their circles if they can, to help eliminate the stigma and to give others the confidence to talk about and seek mental health support if they need it
- Create mental health awareness through our community, diversity and University campaigns, educating and training to encourage people to feel as comfortable with their mental health as they do with their physical health
- Plough profits and donations directly back into providing services for physical and mental health support, and to running campaigns designed to further our mission
- Volunteer our own time and energy because we believe strongly in our mission
